Day 10 of Advanced Mathematical and Statistics Class

It was the tenth day of advanced mathematical and statistics class. Today, one of our friend Mahnoor presented her idea based on analyzing the Armed conflict location and event dataset. Her idea was to find out the affect in results when the number of nearest neighbours are changed in a particular location.

After that, we continued analyzing the ACLED USA dataset and ended up with few questions.

  • Is there a correlation between the number of violent events and the number of protests in the same region?
  • How has the frequency of protest events changed over time during election years?

Day 9 of Advanced Mathematical and Statistics Class

It was the nineth day of advanced mathematical and statistics class. Today, me and my groupmate Ahmed worked on extracting insights from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Dataset. Our primary goal was to perform some preliminary analysis to better understand the nature of the data and identify any interesting patterns.

We began by conducting basic statistical data extraction. This included calculating measures such as mean, median, and standard deviation for relevant numerical fields. We also looked into the frequency of events by type and location to get a sense of the distribution of incidents across the U.S.

We plotted some graphs for better understanding of the data.

These plots made it easier for us to understand the data. This round of analysis helped us get a better idea of how the dataset is organized and gave us some ideas on what we can explore more from the dataset.
